Although I consider myself Wiccan, I have studied many different theologies and cultures. I've been an active participant for over thirty years, and have been affiliated as a solitare with many covens, as needed. NATURAL MAGIC
The development of magical abilities is the result of the spiritualization of the human soul. The closer we grow to our creator, the greater are our abilities and perceptions of the divine reality. It is this divine reality that is the true reality our physical universe imperfectly reflects.Those who have refined their senses by harmonizing them with the divine reality can see interconnections between otherwise unrelated things. The ability to sense this interconnection forms the basis for all magical operations. Those who are true adepts have developed their moral and ethical senses along with their magical powers. They do not display their abilities randomly or in a negative manner. Judaism, Christianity and Islam all recognize that humankind has been granted dominion over the things of the earth by our creator. Psalm 8, verses 4 through 6, is an excellent testimony for this concept. This is a real dominion, freely given by God to all who are able to take advantage of it. It is another foundation of natural magic. Because true priests or priestesses have achieved a harmony with the divine reality of the creator, they are able to demonstrate their dominion over creation. Being able to demonstrate this dominion is what separates the true priest or priestess from the false. True magic always has a physical result on the earth. It does not end in dreams, delusions, and self-deception. True magic is a natural ability that is developed as a result of spiritual growth. It is never the product of a search for power or privilege. It is wise to keep this in mind.

With the use of magic, the question of ethics arise, bear in mind that:
*We can plant suggestions to get others to react favorably toward us, however, we cannot turn them into slaves. As it is, a spell to influence a person has a better chance of succeeding if you activate a thought that was already in that person's mind; it has less of a chance if you try to plant a thought that is repugnant to that person. *The use of magic does not necessarily give you an "unfair" edge over other people, as our lives are affected by many other factors. Fate does not hand privileges out equally, and the decisions of people in power over us are influenced by all sorts of irrational biases, prejudices, and bits of misinformation. Magic can be seen as just another variable to be thrown into this whole cauldron of circumstance, which hopefully will bring a little extra luck to help things go your way. *Thoughts have vibrations, and so your mental state influences the energy field around you. If you use negative, harmful spells, you are necessarily projecting negative emotions. SUMMER SOLSTICE
Midsummer is sometimes referred to by neo-pagans and some others as Litha, stemming from Bede's De temporum ratione in which he gave the Anglo-Saxon names for the months roughly corresponding to June and July as "se Ærra Liþa" and "se Æfterra Liþa" (the "early Litha month" and the "later Litha month") with an intercalary month of "Liþa" appearing after se Æfterra Liþa on leap years. The fire festival or Lith- Summer solstice is a tradition for may pagans. It is a time that they believe the Oak King's reign is over and the Holly King takes over. The power of the sun is at it's strongest. Handfasting which is a ceromony of union, is performed at this time. It is a time for their rededication. Friends and family gather to feast on fruits and vegtables to honor Mother earth's abundant blessings. A fire pit is lit for purification and protection. They also do pet blessings and it is also a fun family time.
The celebration of Midsummer's Eve was from ancient times linked to the summer solstice. People believed that mid-summer plants had miraculous and healing powers and they therefore picked them on this night. Bonfires were lit to protect against evil spirits which were believed to roam freely when the sun was turning southwards again.
June 20-21 is a very important day for our planet and its relationship with the sun. June 20-21 is one of two solstices, days when the rays of the sun directly strike one of the two tropical latitude lines. June 21 marks the beginning of summer in the northern hemisphere and simultaneously heralds the beginning of winter in the southern hemisphere. Celtic Women...The Voice
One of the oldest correspondences for the Moon is the element of water, to the Kabbalist she is called Marah, "The bitter sea from which all life comes and must return." She is also the Superior or Greater Mother; the Inferior or Lesser Mother is called the Sephira Malkuth, traditionally symbolized as the many nature goddesses of folklore. The Moon in ancient history is closely tied with the spiritual or religious experiences of a culture, each culture keeping to the clock of the monthly lunar cycle.The light from the Sun and the Moon were included in the ancient Chinese concepts of 'Yin' and 'Yang.' This principle is the balance of opposites. In this correlation, the Sun represents 'Yang,' the positive masculine principle, and the Moon represents 'Yin,' the receptive (negative) feminine principle. This tradition seems to be a part of most other cultures as well.(For with the ebb and with the flow,as it was, as it is, as it shall be evermore...with the ebb and with the flow).

In the study of Astrology the Moon is said to preside over the sign of Cancer. Among ancient peoples the Moon has been a three-fold goddess of varying names; To the Romans she is Luna, Lucina, or the heavenly goddess Diana, and to the Greeks she is Selene and Artemis. In the underworld, she is Persephone or Hecate, goddess of the crossroads, ruler of magic and enchantments; in the land of the Egyptians, it is the Moon goddess Isis, "Star of the Sea" who was worshipped.
The Moon also ruled the night sky in the land of the Nile, as Nut or Nuit, the heavenly night goddess, the personification of night itself. In the far east of China she is the Moon lady Chang 'O, who was banished to the Moon for eternity. In the study of the Tarot, the High Priestess is associated with the symbology of the Moon.

In ancient times the Wiccans gathered to worship "She Who Is" during the Esbats or Full Moon celebrations. The Moon has also been linked with the seasonal cycle of the four Celtic fire festivals, Bride (new), Imbolc (waxing phase), Beltaine (full), and Samhain during the waning phase of the Moon.
The Moon is still worshipped in many cultures to this day, each echoing a tradition that was held widely among the peoples of northern and eastern Europe, the middle-east and China. Each culture associates the phenomenon with their own holidays. In China an authentic holiday was instituted during the Tang dynasty (A.D. 618-906) to worship the Moon, and every year on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month or during the Mid-Autumn or Harvest Moon, a "Moon Festival" takes place. During this time, it is a tradition to take to the roof-tops, mountains or any other high place to view and honor the Moon. The Scottish Highlanders still celebrate the fire festivals as the 'Quarter Days,' and many Wiccans still gather to practice their herbal remedies and worship "She Who Is"

Brigantia is the green shout of joy at the beginning of Summer. She is the full flowering of the Land. In her, all things are held in their proper balance: all the elements combine to create the Year’s climax of growth and fertility. Under her rule, all of life revels in its creativity. All living things engage in a joyful dance of procreation. Brigantia holds all these things in her protective arms.No actual stories about Brigantia have survived. She was the Goddess of the Brigantes, a Celtic tribe whose homeland was the North of England, with the Pennines at its heart. Brigantia personified their land and their nation. She represented the Sovereignty of the Land, and any male ruler was symbolically married to her.Brigantia is closely related to Brighid as Goddess of the Land. The story of Brighid’s mantle shows that she is sovereign of her land. Brighid and her community live in harmony with the land, taking only as much as they need to live. SHAMANISM
I listen to the sound of the drum and slowly enter into an altered state of consciousness. I am always aware of where I am and slowly travel into what the shamans call the lower world to regain power and strength. Shamans in all parts of the world have commonly used this technique to solve the problems in themselves and those of their communities.
Shamans are known to be the first healers of humankind. Dating back 10,000 years, it is one of if not the first spiritual practice known to the world. It can be used by anyone as a problem-solving technique if it is understood.
The word "shaman" originates from the Tungusic language of Siberia. Shamanism was, and is still practiced, by people around the globe and has remained mostly unchanged since ancient times.
What makes shamanic healing techniques unique is the fact that they go beyond traditional healing forms, as it is a method to directly access spiritual information and guidance. It works when other methods get stuck.
Shamanism is an ancient trance technique, in which the shaman acts as a mediator between the spiritual world and the inner self. He or she opens the door to the inner and outer world of nature. Information about ourselves in the form of spiritual guidance lies hidden in these other worlds and is accessible to the shamanic practitioner.
To be healthy and well from the shamanic point of view is to be one with the powers of the universe. Whenever this equilibrium is disturbed, order and balance are interrupted and illness will occur. Therefore, even a series of unfortunate events is considered to have an impact on one's health. Shamanism addresses all these spiritual causes of ill-health and re-creates order and balance. One of the main causes of illness in the shamanic sense is the loss of power. Power - or soul power - is the sum of vitality, health and energy, together with the feeling of being in control of your life. In fact, the German word for power 'kraft' is a better word for the meaning of power as a life force that is flowing within us and is freely accessible. Soul power can be lost in various ways. It can be reestablished by the shamanic practitioner through journeying or traveling into the other world. There, various helpers will show themselves in the form of power animals or helpers in human or god-like form.
Shamanic treatment is not seen as an exclusive treatment for illnesses. Moreover, it is a complementary method to other medical and psychological treatments. Shamans address the soul and spiritual aspects of the suffering person. Therefore, shamanic healing techniques can add valuable aspects to other medical and psychological treatments. Together, the chances of becoming well again and maintaining health on all levels of existence are better than before.
Sometimes people even lose a piece of their soul to a lost relationship and therefore are prevented from moving on in their lives. This too can be retrieved by the accomplished shaman. Sometimes, it takes a lot of effort to convince the lost soul part to 'come home'. When the shaman travels to the other world, he or she is guided by their own power animals to reach out and bring back the soul essence to the patient.
Sometimes, a soul might not come back on its own because it was stolen by someone else. Even if this concept might sound alien in today's modern world, it is more common than we might have thought. Jealousy or greed might be the reason for others to steal our soul; even simple power games or the fact that someone is permanently exposed to emotional pressure, might trigger the fragmentation of our soul. That is the time when our vitality and soul essence is not accessible to its full potential and we feel stuck in the situation.
There are various origins for soul loss. When a person goes through a personal crisis or trauma, has an accident or is facing a death within the family, a part of his soul essence might split and depart from his soul. This reaction is a life-supporting system of the soul or psyche to be able to cope with reality. In normal circumstances, these soul parts will come back after some time, but more often, some of the parts remain where they are - in nonordinary reality. That means that over time we have less spiritual power and feel tired and depressed. Even medical or psychological treatments might not be successful in the long run because you cannot treat what is not there.
Their core technique is called shamanic journeying or traveling into 'nonordinary reality'. A shaman is a man or a woman who enters into an altered state of consciousness by using monotonous sounds like drumming, rattling or singing to access hidden information. They travel out of time and space. They visualize an opening into the earth like a cave or hole to enter into this other realm. (nonordinary reality)
Depending on what mission they travel on or what kind of information they would like to access, they "fly" into different territories; the lower world, the middle world or the upper world. They leave their body behind and their free soul travels into what is considered to be a parallel universe.
Most shamanic cultures around the world ask power animals for energy, guidance and help. When a child is born, one or more power animals take care of them in the spiritual world. For example, the bear helps children to come into this world. Children still have a natural feeling and intuition to correspond with the other world. It is we, the adults, who lose touch with this natural phenomenon and dismiss our children's attempts to tell us about their conversations with animals in their dreams.
Shamanic practitioners will help to find your spiritual power animal or connect you with your guardian so you can access them throughout your life. Some of you might need the energy of a tiger to regain control in today's difficult world; others would benefit from the power of the alpha wolf to become a leader and protector; it could also happen that an elephant will show up to bring light and happiness into your life.
Sometimes, we need to make a clear decision, but are confused by the options available. That is the time when the eagle might lend us his eyes to rise and look at our problem from another angle and perspective.
Power animals are mostly representatives of wild animal species because domesticated animals do not have enough power as they have given up control over their life. Birds or fish can also be power animals, but insects or spiders do not really qualify as helpers from the other world. Mostly people have one or two power animals at a time, but people can also have access to plenty of them. There are no rules in the shamanic world. Sometimes, a power animal leaves us and is replaced by another one to protect us and keep us healthy and safe. But there are times when we go through a crisis and lose our soul power or give it away voluntarily. (*personal experience-- When I travel to the lower world to relieve negative energy, I wrap all the spiders (insects) I find in white string and then tie it with a gold knot. This binds its power.*)
Feeling whole and complete means feeling one with nature. When we are able to be what we are meant to be, then the power of nature flows freely throughout our lives. Our inner and outer nature is one. We are strong and independent, balanced and in control of our life.
Do we remember how much energy we can gain from outer nature? How does it feel when the wind in the mountains rifles through our hair and fresh air fills your lungs?
The good news is that it can be re-membered by everyone for there are no hidden secrets. We must open our eyes and hearts and learn how to combine knowledge of science with the wisdom of nature. Shamanism is a global heritage.
I hear the shaman's drum. It is my own drum that I hear. It is my own inner shaman that beats the drum and has come back again to teach me - again. Welcome home.

GODDESSES OF WAR
ANDRASTE
Romano-Celtic; British; Anglo-Celtic; Continental Europe) The patron Goddess of the Iceni tribe. Andraste is a warrior goddess, the goddess of victory, of ravens and of battles, similar in many ways to the Irish war goddess Morrigan. Her name is thought to mean "the invincible one" or "she who has not fallen". It is told that her presence was evoked on the eve of battle to curry favor. As a Goddess of divination, she was probably called upon to divine the outcome of battles and war. She was was venerated in woodland groves throughout Southern Britain and there is told of a sacred grove dedicated to Andraste somewhere in Epping Forest. Her symbol is the hare.

Pan-Celtic. Also the Morrigu; "Great Queen"; "Supreme War Goddess"; "Queen of Phantoms or Demons"; "Specter Queen"; shape-shifter. Reigned over the battlefield, helping with her magic, but did not join the battles. Associated with crows and ravens. The Crone aspect of the Goddess; Great Mother; Moon Goddess; Great White Goddess; Queen of the Fairies. In her Dark Aspect (the symbol is then the raven or crow) she is the goddess of war, fate and death; she went fully armed and carried two spears. Goddess of rivers, lakes, and fresh water.
