ST PATRICK'S TOMORROW ... March 17th A celebration that I "feel" too, always enamoured of Celtic culture and music in particular ... :)) In Venice St. Patrick's day was celebrated in the Irish pub in “Strada Nuova”, with music and pints of Guinness (of course!) The pub is still there ... but I’m not. I’ve been in Ireland only once, a romantic break with girlfriend, 15 days of August a few years ago. Remained in my heart the Donegal, harsh land but wonderful as its people, the Keenan's Tarmonbarry (a fabulous pub on the Shannon River!), The ruins of the Benedictine abbey of Fore, County Westmeath, sacked and destroyed by Henry VIII. But it was only the beginning of unspeakable suffering to "us" Catholics ... then will come Cromwell, and with him the carnage and destruction will become “usual”. Ireland loyal to the Pope turns into a large cemetery and a heap of ruins clearly visible today throughout the island. Back to the trip :) To report that I saw in Ballybofey Andy Irvine in concert, component of the mythical Planxty group, the visit "due" in Cong, where was filmed "The Quiet Man" starring John Wayne, and the Rock of Cashel with its beautiful surroundings. About tomorrow’s party :))) TWO SONGS: the first dedicated to St. Patrick's Day ... the second is a hymn of love for Scotland ... in an extraordinary live version played by Dougie McLean who wrote the lyrics and music ... I feel it as a real national anthem, even if it is in English;) Happy St. Patrick's Day then! Alberto, Ciao Ellie ;)
